Yola Picchi passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2013 surrounded by family. She was born March 2, 1919 to Helene and Lorenzo Ricci on a farm where Smith Field is currently located.
Yola was the proud mother of two sons, Richard (Mary) and Stephen (Rosie). She was Noni to 7 grandchildren (Lynn Picchi, Lori Mendes (Mike), Lisa Picchi, Marisa Mendoza (Ireneo), Brandon Picchi (Jackie), David Bernavich and Dimitry Picchi) and 5 great-grandchildren (Sydney Picchi, John Stephen Picchi, Giada Picchi, Logan Mendes and Addison Mendoza) and she was Auntie Yola to many nieces and nephews.
Yola worked at the Blue Gate Candle Factory in El Granada before she began working at the San Mateo County Courthouse. For 20 years, anyone who had to pay a parking ticket over the hill went to see Yola.
The Lions Club was a big part of Yola's life. She was a Lioness for many years and finally joined the Lions Club when the Lionesses disbanded. Lion Yola worked tirelessly alongside her husband, Pete, and her sons at all the Half Moon Bay Lions' projects.
Yola was also an active participant in the Half Moon Bay Volunteer Fire Department Auxillary from the 1930's until the late 1990's and Our Lady of the Pillar church.
Services were held on Friday, October 11th with internment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
Donations in Yola's name may be made to the Lions Eye Foundation, P. O. Box 7999, San Francisco, CA 94120 (www.lionseyefoundation.com).
