Please join us in remembering our mother Grace Riddell who passed away January 4th. We are all heartbroken and we'll miss her dearly.
She was born November 11, 1926 in Shafter, CA to Andrew and Jennie Potter Sewell. She and her two brothers, Frank and Bob and their parents moved to Arroyo Grande, CA. There she grew up with her brothers and friends - always balancing a good mixture of fun and work. Working as a Soda Jerk or picking apricots and finding plenty of time to drive her Model A on the beach or roller skate at the rink at Pismo Beach.
After she graduated high school she worked at Camp San Luis Army Base in the TB Sanitarium which sparked her life long love of working in hospitals. When WWII ended she and her friend Shirley King moved to San Francisco. This is where she met our father Bud while roller skating at the rink at the old Playland by the Beach.
They married and eventually moved to El Granada where she stayed home to raise her children and help her husband with the books for his auto shop in Princeton - later working for many years at Mills Memorial Hospital as a Nurse's Aid.
She was always involved as a room mother or volunteer and she and Bud were the Den Parents for Boy Scouts Troop 272. We'll never forget the real Teepee they built next to the house!
We have so many memories of her love and generosity and support. She expected your best behavior but she also was there to help pick you up when you fell short. From her children to her grandchildren and her great grandchildren - she loved us all and she was always, always so proud of each and everyone of us.
Preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and her husband. She leaves her children Andy (Ann) Riddell, John (Kathi) Riddell and Susan (Jon) Damon as well as all her grandchildren - Mark, Richard (Diana), Katie, Evie, Ben and Erica. Great grandchildren Alicia and Travis. She also leaves her sister in law Virginia McGill and her nieces Diana, Mitzie, Darlene and her nephew Michael.
We'll keep cheering for the 49ers and the Giants Mom and we'll never forget you!
Services are private. Please don't send flowers, but if you want to donate to your favorite charity or the San Francisco Junior Giants that would make her smile.
