George "Rocky" William Perry, 58, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Rocky, known by many family members and childhood friends as "Bill" was born on December 12, 1955 in Woodland, CA to the George Wilburn Perry of Arizona and Mary Tafoya Perry of Yolo, CA.
Rocky attended Holy Rosary Parish School in Woodland and graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, CA in 1974. During high school he was an avid football player, playing defensive linebacker and offensive guard to earn him all-league honors including most valuable player and most inspirational. He attended CSU, Sacramento where he received a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. While in college, he played both offensive and defensive positions for the Hornets from 1974 – 1978. His fierce competitive spirit and strength on the football field earned him the nickname "Rocky" by his teammates, close friends and opponents. After college, Rocky was recruited to the Sacramento Buffaloes where he played semi-professional football for five years. Rocky's extensive athletic career includes state and national accolades in weight lifting, power lifting and judo. Rocky worked as a youth counselor at San Francisco Juvenile Court, and later started his own legal services business.
Rocky loved sports and spent much of his time coaching. He served as an assistant coach for the San Francisco State University Gators. He was involved with youth sports for many years and coached AYSO soccer, recreation softball league, Pop Warner football, and Little League baseball teams. For the past 6 years, Rocky served as assistant coach for the Half Moon Bay Cougars. Basically, he enjoyed coaching every sport his children participated in and continued on coaching thereafter for the love of the game and his players.
Rocky was preceded in his death by his parents, George and Mary Tafoya Perry.
Rocky is survived by Karen Morrison Perry, his daughter Alex Perry and his son Zack Perry, all of Half Moon Bay, CA; his sister Gaylene Miller of Woodland and his brother Gerald Tafoya-Perry of Sacramento; his loving nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and numerous other relatives.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church, 540 Kelly Street, Half Moon Bay, CA, 94019, at 3:30 p.m. on October 2nd, 2014. A Celebration of Life reception will be held immediately following the Mass.
