Carl "Guppy" Maidt, a lifelong Coastside resident, born July 8, 1942 passed away peacefully with his wife by his side in his favorite vacation spot, Pismo Beach on July 13, 2012.
Guppy graduated from Half Moon Bay High School in 1960. Following his graduation he started his career as a heavy duty mechanic at H.E. Casey and Cap Concrete. In 1969 he married the love of his life, Shirley. Together they raised four children. Guppy continued his career at Pacific Ready Mix, Rice Trucking and Cabrillo Unified School District where he retired in 2003.
Guppy had many ties to the Coastside community. He was involved with Half Moon Bay Little League for more than twenty years. He was a member of the
Half Moon Bay Volunteer Fire Department and he also coached baseball at Half Moon Bay High School.
Some of his passions were deer hunting and sprint car racing. He also enjoyed riding ATV's on the dunes at Pismo Beach with Shirley by his side. His most important passion was spending time with his family and friends of which he had many.
Next to Shirley, the love of his life and his best friend, were his grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye, his pride and joy.
Guppy had a special place in his heart for all children. He spent many hours at the "Claw" to gather stuffed animals for any and all children that crossed his path. It not only put a smile on their face but his as well.
Guppy is preceded in death by his father, Carl Maidt. He is survived by his mother, Gloria Maidt, his wife Shirley, his children, Donna Forster, Don Coats, Jeff Coats and Claudene Lien, Donna's husband Danny and their children Jessica, Erica and Jenna, Don's children Charlene and Angela, Jeff's son Jeffrey, Claudene's husband Rob and their children Steven and Nathan. He is also survived by his sister Susan her husband Norm Poss and his nieces.
He will be missed by all and forever in our hearts.
