Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Edward by adding your memories and photos.

Edward Lea, 94, passed away on May 20th, 2019, at his home in Half Moon Bay, Calif, surrounded by family.

Edward was born to Giorgio and Manin Lea, recent immigrants from Italy, at their home in Moss Beach on August 8th, 1924.

He grew up speaking Italian and attended Half Moon Bay schools, graduating in 1944 from Half Moon Bay High. After graduation, Edward joined the Navy where he served in World War II, fighting aboard the battleship U.S.S. Pennsylvania, the flagship of the Pacific fleet.

After the war, he returned to the coastside to farm, and later met and married his love Elinor Attinger, of San Francisco, in 1948. They welcomed three children, Judie, David and Shirley into their home in Half Moon Bay, and Edward continued to grow Brussels sprouts, artichokes, peas and pumpkins with his father, partners and son David for the rest of his life, visiting the ranch every day until three days prior to his passing.

Edward lived his entire 94 years on the coastside, serving his community as a volunteer firefighter, volunteer night watchman on Devil's Slide, board member for the Cabrillo Unified School District and as a longtime member of the San Mateo County Farm Bureau.

Edward is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elinor, wife of 68 years, his parents, brother Ugo and cousin Gino. He is survived by his three children Judie, David and Shirley, and four grandchildren Amanda, Nicholas, Michelle and Matthew.
