Tribute & Message From The Family

Charlie passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his Half Moon Bay home the evening of Wednesday, January 31, 2018 after a brief illness.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 41 years, Florece "Pooky" Francis, his son Gary Francis, his step-daughter Cherine Griffin George (husband Dan), granddaughters Emma and Amy Francis as well as countless extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father John Francis, mother Irene DeMartini Francis, brothers Jack Francis, Chester "Chet" Francis, Norman "Dick" Francis and sister Jacqueline "Jackie" Francis Avila.

Charlie was proud that he was a multi-generational Half Moon Bay resident. He smiled humbly when someone would point out the building adorning the families name on Main Street.

In his early years, Charlie had many jobs such as working at the families mercantile but the bulk of his professional career was spent with Pac Bell. Although he was a lineman for a number of years, the bulk of his 33 years there were spent traveling up and down the coastside from Davenport to Montara troubleshooting telephone issues. He also made a name for himself training bird dogs for hunters from near and far.

Charlie enjoyed hunting and was an avid freshwater fisherman. He enjoyed most sports, from Horse Racing to Football, but his favorite activity by far was watching his granddaughters showing their animals or playing basketball, softball and volleyball.

Condolence & Memory Journal

To Charlie's Family: I just received the sad news of Charlies passing today (February 8th). Sorry for not being able to be there for the funeral to show my respect I had for him. Charlie was like my Big Brother and we had some great times despite our age difference when we were kids. Charlie sold me his sorrel horse (Rick) which I had for several years on ranches that I managed in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii. He was always interested in my cowboy life style and I will miss those special times I had with him sharing my experiences. Without a doubt, he was a great friend and my big brother that will be missed! Condolences,
Ervie Alves
